Guess, one Japanese custom that people do on Winter Solstice Day. Do you like taking a hot long bath? Do you like citrus fruits? Then you might like this custom.
TOUJI is the 15 days that begin with Winter Solstice Day. It is the 22nd season of The 24 Seasons. On this day, Japanese people take a special bath, called “柚子湯(/yuzu-yu/)”.
柚子(Yuzu) is a type of citrus fruit known as one of Japanese flavor. Its botanical name is Citrus Junos. Fill the bathtub with hot water and float a few Yuzus in the bath. That is 柚子湯(Yuzuyu). The oldest written record of this custom was written in 1838.
The following effectiveness are found in Yuzu:
-To prevent catching cold
-Hesperidin (a type of polyphenol): good for improving blood circulation
-Vitamin C: Good for moisturizing
THE TOP YUZU-PRODUCING DISTRICT in Japan
The top Yuzu-producing district is on Shikoku island, where we are. The top 3 producing districts are all on our island. Kochi, Tokushima, and Ehime. 73.7% of Yuzus are produced in Shikoku!
